Organization of health care providers that agrees to meet the specified Quality performance standered and they are eligible to receive share of savings if actual per capita expenditure is low as per specified banchmark
Following is recent evidence about the performance of ACOs
As we know that there is statistically significant correlation between ACOs with higher financial benchmarks and their total savings. However, there is we notice that there are many successful ACOs in lower-cost areas .Because ACO face issues like ; uncertainty and inexperience at transitioning to increasing levels of risk, lack of timely and accurate data, changes in attributed patient populations from year-to-year, and financial benchmarks that fail to account for regional variations and continue to reward high ACO performance over time.
Now there is big program like MSSP would affect the performance of ACO .Previous study shown that MSSP has made saving if $ 700 million and this is around 1 percent of the costs of care for beneficiaries affected by Medicare ACO initiatives. Now -a-days ACO in many states do well also. In some states like Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and Massachusetts the performance of ACO is very good

January 2015, 26 percent of ACOs had more than one accountable care contract,. and the prediction of the future of ACO growth is an inexact science that depends on countless factors
